Arkansas Aspiring Scholars Matching Grant

In Arkansas, a new college savings program was just announced. The Aspiring Scholars Matching Grant will provide matching funds in the state's 529 plan for qualifying families. The account holder and the beneficiary must be Arkansas residents.

Families with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $60,000 or under will qualify for a 1-1 match up to $500 per year. Those with an AGI of $30,000 or below will qualify for a 2-1 match up to $500.

As a pilot program funded under ACT 597 of 2007, there is $250,000 set aside for the first two years of the program and will be granted based on need following closure of the application period April 30.

Burger King Scholars Program

Every year Burger King, along with the Whopper, awards $1,000 scholarships to deserving high school seniors. Get information about requirements and an application at http://www.bk.com/companyinfo/community/BKS.aspx. The application deadline is February 15, 2008, so you better hurry.

KFC Colonel's Scholars Program®

Chosen students can receive a $5,000 scholarship for tuition, fees, books and room and board. The student could receive up to $20,000 over four years. Get more information at http://www.kfcscholars.org. The application deadline is February 15, 2008.

McDonalds RMHC Scholarship Program

McDonalds, through it's Ronald McDonald House, offers scholarships to students who would otherwise be limited in their educational and career opportunities. Get more information at http://www.rmhc.org/scholarships/rmhc-national-scholarship-program. Deadline for applications is February 15, 2008.

Carl's Jr. Carl N. and Margaret Karcher Founders' Scholarship Program


In honor of their founders, Carl's Jr is offering $1,000 scholarships to 60 deserving high school seniors or graduates. You can get information on the scholarships at http://www.carlsjr.com/promotions. Deadline for the applications is February 1, so hurry.

Dartmouth College Announces Tuition and Loan Elimination Plan

Dartmouth College President James Wright announced today several major additions to the school's financial aid program. Beginning with the 2008-09 school year:

All students with a family income below $75,000 will go tuition-free. They may also be eligible for scholarships to help cover other expenses such as room, board, books and miscellaneous expenses.

Scholarships will be replacing grants for incoming scholarship students beginning with the Class of 2012. Current students will see their loans cut by 50%.

Starting with the Class of 2012, Dartmouth will extend it's need-blind admission policy to all international students. Currently students from the US, Canada and Mexico are covered by the policy.

Financial aid recipients will be eligible for a $2,950 scholarship in their junior year to assist them in taking advantage of possible research or internship opportunities.

Bowdoin College to Eliminate Student Loans

Bowdoin College of Brunswick, Maine, announced Friday that beginning with the 2008-09 school year, they will replace student loans for all new and current students receiving financial aid.

Bowdoin's program is among the most ambitious of the schools that have anounced similiar no loan plans. Many others have reduced loans for current students, without eliminating them altogether. Still others have capped the family incomes that would be eligible.

Bowdoin's plan may allow gradsuates to make a job choice based on desire, rather than making enough money to repay the student loans.

Florida May Eliminate College Grants for Thousands

With budget issues reaching crisis levels, the governor's budget proposal seeks to eliminate grants for Florida students attending private colleges and universities under the Florida Resident Access Grant Program (FRAG).

Agriculture Scholarships - Almost $2.5 Million

1st Farm Credit Services runs several scholarship programs focused on students living or going to school in their service area which includes the Illinois counties of Adams, Boone, Brown, Bureau, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Fulton, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Hancock, Jo Daviess, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Knox, Lake, La Salle, Lee, Livingston, Marshall, Mason, McDonough, McHenry, McLean, Mercer, Ogle, Peoria, Pike, Putnam, Rock Island, Schuyler, Stark, Stephenson, Tazewell, Warren, Whiteside, Will, Winnebago, Woodford. Here are two of them.

"At The Heart Of A Growing America" Agricultural Scholarship Program

This program consists of 23 $1,000 scholarships for students who have been accepted in an agriculture or agriculture-related curriculum at a college, community college or university. Community College Agricultural Scholarship Program

Students at the following community colleges: Black Hawk College – East Campus, Kewanee; Highland Community College, Freeport; Illinois Central College, East Peoria; Illinois Valley Community College, Oglesby; John Wood Community College, Perry; Joliet Junior College, Joliet; Kishwaukee College, Malta; and Spoon River College, Canton, are eligible for a $500 scholarship funded by 1st Farm Credit Services. National FFA Organization Scholarship Program

Each year the FFA Organization offers about $2 million in scholarships to members and non-members. Applications for this year's scholarships must be submitted by February 15. More information at http://www.ffa.org/index.cfm?method=c_programs.Scholarships

Foremost Farms USA Agricultural Education Scholarships

Foremost Farms USA is offering up to 11 scholarships worth $2,000 each to member-owners or their children. Application deadline is February 28. More information at http://www.foremostfarms.com/news_and_events/index.html

CHS Foundation Two-Year College Scholarship Program

The CHS Foundation is sponsoring 50 $7500 scholarships for students attending their first year at an agricultural program at a two year colege. The scholarship will be used during their second year. NCGA Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship Program

The National Corn Growers Association awards five $1,000 scholarships annually to students who are members or dependents of members of the NCGA. To be eligible, students must be in an agriculture, agribusiness, or ag vocation program at an accredited institution and must be either a second year or later undergrad or a graduate student. The University of Oregon announce that beginning in September, all incoming Oregonian freshmen who qualify for Pell Grants will receive aid packages that will cover the total cost of their tuition and fees. The program, called PathwayOregon, will pick up whatever costs aren't covered by federal and state aid.

Students qualifying for PathwayOregon will also be provided with academic support. Some students may also qualify for room and board.

To qualify, Oregon students must be eligible for the Pell Grants, have their admissions applications in by January 15, have the FAFSA into the University by March 1, apply for one of two University scholarships, as well as other requirements.
