More Than $5 Million Dollars in Assistance Now Available for High Seniors From the Horatio Alger Association

The Horatio Alger Association will award 103 national scholarships of $10,000 including at least one winner from every state and the District of Columbia. The students awarded the national scholarship will receive an all expense paid trip to attend the 2007 Horatio Alger National Scholars Conference in Washington, DC. The National Scholars Conference includes sessions in overcoming adversity, civic education, preparing for success in college and meetings with Horatio Alger Members.

Applications can be completed online at http://www.horatioalger.org/scholarships. The applications require the completion of biographical, academic and financial information. Each applicant is asked to describe the adversities that they have faced or are facing. Past scholarship recipients have detailed their experiences living in poverty, in foster care, being homeless, being physically abused, having parents who abused alcohol or drugs.

More than five million dollars will be awarded by the Association to high school seniors graduating in 2007 through a combination of the National and State Scholarship Programs. The Horatio Alger Association is the nation’s leading provider of need based college scholarship having provided forty million dollars in college scholarships since 1984.
