July 30, 2006 - Illinois expands MAP Grant program
Gov. Blagojevich today signed Senate Bill 2225, which creates MAP Plus, the first Illinois grant program to specifically help middle class families pay for college.
MAP Plus will assist college sophomores, juniors and seniors from families with incomes below $200,000 with a $500 grant. There will also be increased funding for the existing MAP program in the Fiscal 2007 budget. The program assists students from lower income families. About 225,000 students will benefit from the creation of MAP Plus and the additional funding for MAP.
Students must file a FAFSA form to be eligible for the MAP Plus grants. More information can be found at www.collegezone.com, the Illinois financial aid site.
