Florida First Generation Students to Benefit from $10 Million Gift

The Helios Education Foundation announced on December 6 that they were donating $10 million to Florida schools to help students who will be the first in their family to achieve a college degree.

There were two checks presented....$5 million to the Board of Governors Foundation of the State University System and $5 million to the Foundation for Florida’s Community Colleges. These gifts will be matched by the state and the earnings from the endowments will provide a continuing resource of college grants for students of the future.

You can read more about the grants at http://www.helios.org/press-06-12-06.htm.

Are You a High School Senior in the Atlanta Area?

If you are, then as a lead in to rap star Young Jeezy's newwest recording, "the Inspriration", Corporate Thugz Entertainment is offering a $2000 scholarship to the metro-Atlanta high school senior who writes the best 300 words or less essay on "What Inspires You?". (The rules page says it's a $1000 scholarship....I've emailed them to get clarification.) Either way, it's a pretty good deal for a 300 word essay....get writing! I just got a response...the scholarship began at $1000, some other Atlanta area businesses have contributed enough to make it $2000 and the sponsors are hopeful that it will reach $5000 by the time it's over.

You've got to hurry though...mail in entries have to be postmarked by December 6 and online entries need to be in by December 8. Check it out at http://www.theinspirationessaycontest.com
